The Show

Behind The Spine is a podcast that draws on many different areas of life, to find learning opportunities for writers. In each episode we deconstruct the formation of environments, character traits and story arcs in real world situations, from pandemics to football, and explore how to use the various themes to inspire creativity. 

Your Host

Mark Heywood has 10 years experience of professional writing and directing credits, with training from film schools in London and Los Angeles. He is represented by the Rupert Heath Literary Agency and the Emptage Hallett Talent Agency, holding an MA (Distinction) in Screenwriting for Film and Television from Royal Holloway. Mark is the co-author of the bestselling Mark Dewar “Cordoba” novels. The first book in the series was shortlisted for the Crime Writers' Association Debut Dagger Award in 2008. He has several audio, film and television projects in development, and is a writer/producer for several CollabFeature/Amazon Prime projects. His latest stage play, RHUBARB GHETTO, recently had its world premiere at London’s biggest arts festival in February 2020. He also hosts The Writing Salon.
